Terms of Service
Last updated: April 10, 2026
Agreement
By creating an account or using the Silmarl API, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
"Service" means the Silmarl website, API, and any associated tools. "You" means the individual or entity using the service.
What Silmarl is
Silmarl is a tool that retrieves publicly available SEC filings from EDGAR and uses AI to generate plain-language summaries. It is an informational tool only.
Silmarl does not provide financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. Nothing on this service should be construed as a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security. Always consult a qualified professional before making investment decisions.
Summaries are generated by AI and may contain errors, omissions, or mischaracterizations. The underlying filings on SEC EDGAR are the authoritative source.
Accounts and API keys
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key. Do not share your key or commit it to public repositories. Usage under your key is your responsibility, regardless of who performs it.
You may regenerate your API key at any time from the dashboard. Regenerating a key immediately invalidates the previous one. Your usage quota carries over; regeneration does not reset your monthly limit.
Accounts are for individual use unless you have a Business plan that explicitly permits team access. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits is prohibited.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service to generate, distribute, or act on misleading financial information
- Resell or sublicense API access without explicit written permission
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, quotas, or access controls
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract the service or its outputs
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable regulations
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its underlying infrastructure
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms without notice.
Plans, billing, and quotas
Summary quotas reset on the first day of each calendar month. Unused summaries do not roll over.
Paid plans are billed monthly. Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your payment method.
Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis; contact hello@silmarl.com within 7 days of a charge if you believe one was made in error.
We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice. Notice will be provided by email and posted on the pricing page.
Data and content
Filing text is sourced from SEC EDGAR, a public government database, and is not proprietary to Silmarl. Summaries generated by the service are provided for personal use under your plan. You may not republish or redistribute summaries as your own product.
We do not claim ownership of filing content. Summary output generated from your requests is yours to use for lawful purposes within the terms of this agreement.
Availability and accuracy
We aim for high availability but make no uptime guarantees on Free or Starter plans. Business plan SLAs are defined separately in your agreement.
SEC filing availability depends on EDGAR. Filing data may be delayed, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable due to factors outside our control.
AI-generated summaries may be inaccurate. We do not warrant the completeness, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose of any summary produced by the service.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Silmarl is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including losses arising from investment decisions made using this service.
Our total liability for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
Intellectual property
The Silmarl name, logo, website design, and proprietary software are owned by us and may not be used without permission. Nothing in these terms grants you a license to our trademarks or source code.
Termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting hello@silmarl.com. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are inactive for 12 or more months on the Free plan, or for any other reason with 30 days notice.
Upon termination, your API key is revoked and your data is deleted per the Privacy Policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be communicated by email. Continued use after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance.
